Here is another incidence of natures pharmacy proving to be an effective source of healing. Marijuana is first and foremost an herb, albeit one that has been embattled due to irresponsible recreational use.
I have a very close friend who also credits marijuana for his recovery success from stage 4 colo-rectal cancer. Unfortunately Medical Marijuana is not legal in his state of residence and his senior citizen mother risked her own individual freedom and safety to procure the herb for her son.
This is a very fascinating infographic showing the shifts in Caloric intake from the 1970’s to 2008. Consider the shifts in association with America’s rising obesity epidemic as well as increases in heart disease and cancer morbidity and mortality.
**is it too obvious of me to point out that meat, dairy and veggies stay pretty much consistant?***
Pharmaceutical treatment for depression is a multi-million dollar business. However exercise is as, if not more, efficacious in the treatment of depression than prescription medications.
According to recent research published in the International Journal of Psychiatric Medicine:
Physical activity has been consistently shown to be associated with improved physical health, life satisfaction, cognitive functioning, and psychological well-being. Conversely, physical inactivity appears to be associated with the development of psychological disorders. Specific studies support the use of exercise as a treatment for depression
Get off the couch, move, meditate, eat real foods, love and be happy!
The United States comprises 5% of the world’s population yet consumes 70% of the world’s pharmaceuticals. It is time for a paradigm shift.
This is a longish video at just over 7 minutes but is well worth the watch.
Ex-Pharma Sales Reps Speaks Out - Pharma Not in Business of Health, Healing, Cures, Wellness.
Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature’s Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant.
The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. But the fine line walked by the FDA between the interests of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and the American public has continually been crossed. The result is the unleashing of an unprecedented number of lethal drugs on the U.S. market!
Gwen Olsen learned firsthand the danger that lurks in every American’s medicine cabinet, working in the pharmaceutical industry. But her most poignant education would come as a victim and, ultimately, as a survivor.

This weekend CNN featured Professor Robert Lustig. The interview centered around his youtube video of a 2009 lecture that has gone viral. The topic of the lecture deals with the possible toxicity of sugar.
This NY Times article is one by Gary Taubes and is a good read discussing the possibilities of sugar toxicity. Although I happen to not be a big fan of The Times I am a fan of Gary Taubes. If you haven’t read his books, Good Calories Bad Calories and Why We Get Fat, you may want to.
This article is a very easy read detailing some of the most common effects wheat has on the brain, including effects on the ADHD and bipolar individual.
Those of you who know me (or who follow my personal blog) know that I eat a grain free diet. I found I am particularly sensitive to sugar and grain and lead a much more healthy and productive life when I exclude these “foods” from my diet.
This is a must watch.
This is a very simple and easy to understand biochemistry lesson about how/why our bodies get fat.
I love when other people post this movie because I have watched it a hundred times!
It definitely what we need to know about our bodies~!
Why You Got Fat (by FatHeadMovie)
For decades we’ve been told gaining and losing weight is all about the calories. Just one little problem: the research says otherwise. Diabetics undergo dramatic weight changes when they adjust their insulin levels — and so do you. Your diet determines how much insulin your body will produce over time.
Your chiropractor has been telling you this for years, but now the CDC and NIH are coming on board with evidence showing that physical activity is healthy for your joints and can ease the discomfort associated with osteoarthritis. Now, go move those bones!
Doctors increasingly are recommending physical activity to help osteoarthritis patients, overturning the more traditional medical advice for people to take it easy to protect their joints.
Well spring is long overdue, but the influx of patients with complaints of seasonal allergies is telling me that spring indeed has sprung.
Although there are many over the counter allergy medications available these treatments are not without side effects and they do little if anything to heal the body and prevent further outbreaks. Acupuncture however, works to correct imbalances in the body to alleviate symptoms as well as inhibit further out breaks. Next time your nose is runny, your eyes are itchy and you just can’t control that sneezing head for your local acupuncturist. You’ll be glad you did.
Acupuncture continues to prove successful in treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. With the continued deployment of troops overseas, new and effective methods of treating returning soldiers is much needed. It encouraging to note that the Veterans Administration continues to be willing to pay outside contractors to provide acupuncture services via their “fee basis” department.
If you are a veteran and feel acupuncture can help you, please speak to your PCP about a referral to a licensed acupuncturist in your area.
